Call from the US House of Representatives: Continue aid to earthquake zones

35 members of the House of Representatives, in a letter they wrote to USAID Administrator Samantha Power, demanded the continuation of aid to Turkey and Syria, where heavy destruction was experienced by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes.

Led by Democrat Gerry Connolly, a Virginia Member of the US House of Representatives, the call asked USAID and the US government to continue their “rapid response to the humanitarian crisis.”

The letter said USAID “saved lives” immediately after the earthquakes by sending search and rescue teams from California and Virginia, including the Disaster Relief Response Team (DART).

Members of the House of Representatives in the letter; It also included a list of urgent needs including tents, sleeping bags, blankets and heavy-duty machinery to be used for debris removal.

In a written statement made by USAID yesterday, it was noted that after the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes, the epicenter of which was in the Pazarcık and Elbistan districts of Kahramanmaraş and affecting a total of 11 provinces, 2.5 million dollars worth of emergency supplies were transported by air to the Turkish people. .

In the statement, it was stated that more than 8 tons of necessities, including kitchen and hygiene materials, durable plastic tarps for temporary shelters, and thermal blankets enough for hundreds of thousands of people, will be sent to earthquake victims in the coming days.
