Free trade zone opened on Iran-Pakistan border

A free trade zone and electricity transmission line were opened between Iran and Pakistan at the Pişin-Mend Border Gate in Sistan-Baluchestan province.

According to Tesnim News Agency, the free trade zone and electricity transmission line were put into service with an official ceremony held during the visit of Iranian President Ibrahim Reisi to the Sistan-Baluchistan province on the Pakistani border.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also attended the ceremony held at the Pişin-Mend Border Gate.

After the ceremony, Reisi and Şerif held a meeting where they evaluated the relations between the two countries.

Mubeyyin Alimey, Director of Sistan-Baluchistan Free Trade Zone, said that 6,000 families in the region will benefit from border trade.

Alimey, “In the free trade zone established to support the border residents, 120 items of food and clothing from Pakistan will be able to be purchased duty-free for up to $400.” said.
