NATO to send temporary accommodation facilities to Turkey

NATO allies decided to send full-fledged, “semi-permanent” shelters to Turkey to accommodate those affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake that shook Turkey.

According to the statement made by NATO, the shelter facilities that NATO will send will normally consist of headquarters complexes used in NATO’s exercises and operations. These facilities include facilities such as heating, generator and medical treatment areas.

NATO military officials are evaluating the most appropriate logistics and transport options for shipping the shelter facilities currently held at the NATO Support Agency Southern Operations Center in Taranto, Italy.

These facilities will be completed by placing tents suitable for winter conditions, which NATO countries started to send after they were established.

NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander in Europe (SACEUR) Gen. Christopher Cavoli will lead the efforts to dispatch the units.

Welcoming the decision of the allies, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, “NATO stands in strong solidarity with our ally Turkey. The transfer of these shelter facilities will save lives. NATO allies and partners are giving serious support to the relief effort. We will continue to do our best to help those in need. ” said.
