Preparation of sanctions for exorbitant rent increase

Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdag stated that the 25 percent increase limit in rents will be extended and efforts are being made to impose sanctions on exorbitant rent increases.

Bozdağ said, “There is a case of imposing sanctions. We have prepared three alternatives. There may be prison sentences, judicial fines, administrative fines may be foreseen.”

Last Saturday, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, reminding that the regulation limiting the increase in residential rents is valid until the 7th month of 2023, announced that they will extend it after the 7th month, and that they will protect the citizens if there is an average above the market conditions.

In the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, the regulation regarding the housing rent increase not to exceed 25 percent of the price of the previous year was accepted in June 2022.
