Among the 15-64 age group working age population, which constitutes 68.1 percent of Turkey’s population, 69.2 percent of the population live in densely populated urban areas. While the rate of those residing in areas classified as medium-density cities within the total population in this age group is 14.7 percent; The rate of those residing in areas classified as rural was 16.1 percent.

It was observed that 69.7 percent of the 0-14 age group, defined as the child population, resided in areas classified as dense urban areas, 15.3 percent in areas classified as medium-dense urban, and 15 percent in rural areas.

Istanbul, the most crowded busy city

The province with the highest proportion of people living in areas classified as dense cities was Istanbul.
According to the Address Based Population Registration System (ADNKS) 2022 results, 96.4 percent of the residents of Istanbul, which is the province with the highest population, are classified as dense urban, 2.7 percent as medium-dense urban and 0.9 percent as rural. found to live in settlements. It was observed that 88.3 percent of the residents of Ankara, the province with the second largest population in Turkey, live in dense urban areas, 7.6 percent in medium-dense urban areas and 4.1 percent in rural settlements. 78.6 percent of the residents of Izmir, which ranks third in terms of population size, live in dense urban areas, 12.2 percent in medium-dense urban areas and 9.1 percent in rural settlements.

Artvin, the most populous city as a medium dense city

The provinces with the highest proportion of population residing in settlements classified as medium-density cities were Artvin with 58.1 percent, Bayburt with 57.9 percent and Sinop with 57.3 percent, respectively. On the other hand, the provinces with the lowest proportion of population residing in settlements classified as medium-density cities were Kilis with 1.6 percent, Istanbul with 2.7 percent and Eskişehir with 6.5 percent, respectively.

Ardahan, the busiest province in rural class

The province with the highest proportion of the population residing in settlements classified as rural was Ardahan with 68.4 percent. Ardahan was followed by Tunceli with 60.3 percent and Bartın with 54.2 percent. The provinces with the lowest proportion of residents in rural areas were Istanbul with 0.9 percent, Ankara with 4.1 percent and Kocaeli with 4.7 percent, respectively.
